After the magnificent success of last year’s event, the Speckfest, festival of cured ham, will again be held in Santa Maddalena-Val di Funes, in the province of Bolzano.

This year the festival is offering an extended programme of festivitities in the picturesque town at the foot of the Odle Dolomites. From 1st to 3rd October 2010, in fact, the cured ham which is the most famous product of the region will draw residents and tourists alike for much fun, folklore, music and the tastiest food the region has to offer, including coveted home-made products like cheeses, honey and jams.
Flavour and tradition have come together for the eighth Speckfest, which every year achieves national and international success thanks to the record number of visitors. Last year alone the festival drew 5 000 visitors from Austria and Italy (north and south), defining the region of Alto Adige as the meeting point between alpine and mediterranean Europe. 2009 also saw a record boom in sales: in only two days about 4 thousand kilos of speck were sold.
The Speckfest is organised by Val di Funes Tourist Association, Consorzio Tutela Speck Alto Adige (Alto Adige Association for the Quality Control of Cured Ham) and Alto Adige Eos Export Organisation associated with the Chamber of Commerce in Bolzano.
