For this unprecedented exhibition in Italy, which opens its doors on 12 November and continues up to 15 April 2012, the Town Council in Genova, Linea d’Ombra and the Palazzo Ducale, have collaborated with all the most important museums in the world at the highest level. The result is exceptional and merits a visit to the Ligurian capital to see the works on display. Among these, Gauguin’s “Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?”, the famous masterpiece painted by the artist in 1897. This is only the fourth time in the painting’s history that the museum of Boston has lent it out, and only the second time it is in Europe, the last time being in Paris, 10 years ago.
This exhibition, with 80 masterpieces of European and American paintings of the XIXth and XXth centuries, recognises the centrality of the influence of Vincent van Gogh on the art of this period and has placed him at the centre of the exhibition.
Other artists include: Edward Hopper, Mark Rothko, William Turner, Claude Monet, Kandinsky, Morandi.
