The Aquarium in Genoa
An underwater journey

The Blue Depths
The Genoa Aquarium was opened in October 1992 and for over ten years the represents the link that this marine city has with the sea. The immense structure is over 250 metres long. The aquarium is home to over 6000 examples of 500 different animal species that live within recreated marine and land environments.
The Genoa Aquarium is truly an underwater world representing all the different natural underwater environments. It recreates habitats such as the Caribbean Coral reef, the Central American rain forests and its inhabitants range from seals to Nile crocodiles.
Hands on emotionsThe tank has a 50 metre wide perimeter and holds 50,000 litres of water and is built in such a way that it allows physical contact with the marine creatures. On placing a hand under the water in the tank the rays, and the other species that are in the tank come to surface to be stroked and caressed by the visitors. It is an incredible experience.
Behind the scenesFor those visitors who wish to look into the “future”, the three dimensional cinema within the complex, thanks to the powers of computer animation, will show you the “Krakken”, incredible sea creatures that will populate our oceans millions of years in the future.
