This is the first town of the Cinque Terre coming from Genova. Set on hills covered with vines and olive trees, it offers the sea lover beautiful beaches and crystalline water.

Monterosso is placed at the centre of a small natural gulf, to the east of Punta Mesco on the coast of the Ligurian Riviera. To the west, just beyond the Capuchin hills, through a short tunnel, the village of Fegina opens onto the biggest sandy beach in the Cinque Terre. One can also reach Fegina by train.
The old part of Monterosso with its house-towers and narrow streets is dominated by the remains of an obertenga castle on a sheer cliff overhanging the sea. A must-see for art lovers: the precious paintings housed in the Capuchin convent. The parish church of St. John the Baptist, with its façade in green and white marble, dates to the fourteenth century.
From Punta Mesco, a pleasant stroll of an hour and a quarter takes you towards Levanto. On the way an old abandoned lighthouse offers a spectacular view of the sea. Nearby there are the ruins of the hermitage of Sant’Antonio del Mesco.
Gastronomic note: the anchovies of Monterosso are considered the most delicious in the Cinque Terre.
